LUTs have been a popular choice for many over recent years. They can help anyone build a portfolio of colour presets that can be used across all editing software.
They’re also heavily used by professionals to convert Log footage to a natural colour, which is known to be difficult to do yourself unless you are an experienced colourist.
In this guide, I will show you how to use LUTs efficiently and install them in the program files so you don’t need to import them every time.
How to use LUTs in Premiere Pro Quickly
- Go to the “Effects” panel and search for Lumetri Color
- Drag & drop Lumetric Color onto your clip
- Open the “Creative correction” tab
- Select the “Input LUT” drop-down, click “Browse” and choose your LUT
Installing LUTs into Premiere Pro
This permanently applies the LUTs inside the software, so you don’t need to import them every time. You will find the installed LUTs in the effect “Lumetri Color” inside the Looks list.
Mac
- Open up a “Finder” window > go to “Applications” > open the Adobe Premiere Pro CC folder
- Right-click on Adobe Premiere Pro CC > select “Show Package Contents” > then open “Contents“
- Open the “Lumetri” folder
- Open the “LUTs” folder
- Open the “Creative” folder
- Copy & paste your LUTs to this folder
- You will then need to restart Premiere Pro to reload the LUTs
- Now you can add the “Lumetri Color” effect to your clip, open the “Creative” tab, and then click the drop-down to find your LUTs
Windows
- Open up an “Explorer” window
- Go to the “C://” folder > then go to “Program Files” > then open “Adobe” > and then open “Adobe Premiere Pro CC“
- Open the “Creative” folder
- Copy & paste your LUTs to this folder
- You will then need to restart Premiere Pro to reload the LUTs
- Now you can add the “Lumetri Color” effect to your clip, open the “Creative” tab, and then click the drop-down to find your LUTs

LUT Manager for Mac
Premiere Pro doesn’t have a nice method of previewing LUTs quickly, so Color Finale have created a LUT manager. It only works on Mac, but it’s still great. Check their LUT Manager here.
