Premiere Pro is one of the best video editing programs on the market. It’s been around for so many years and used by so many professionals around the world. This works for all versions of Premiere Pro, so no worries about thinking it might not work in your version.
It’s ridiculously easy to change the speed of a clip in Premiere Pro. I will get straight to the point!
How to change the speed of a clip quickly
- Right-click on a clip in your Premiere Pro timeline
- Go to “Speed/Duration“
- Change the percentage value of your choice
Pro tip – it’s good practice to only change the speed of the clip in multiples of the clip’s frame rate. If you don’t do this, the frame rate will not match properly and the footage will look jumpy. For example, speed up by 100%, 200% etc. Slow down by 50%, 25% etc.
Speed ramping in Premiere Pro
Speed ramping is an effect when changing from one speed to another in a smooth ramp-like manner (just like in the video below).
For example, a clip can be playing in normal motion, then all of a sudden it slows down with a smooth “wind-down” effect to slow motion. See this video below for an example of a speed ramp.
Please see our detailed guide and video tutorial on how to speed ramp in Premiere Pro.
